Proud to be A Girl is a new body of work that I am shooting. It explores the area of a girl’s self belief, self confidence and spirit. I have seen such brilliant confidence in young girls of 6,7,8 what we need to try to do is to encourage and help girls to hold on to their self belief and confidence which many seem to lose as they hit teenage adolescence and puberty. These themes have been explored in some campaigns such as Always’ campaign shot by a female director who made a whole campaign asking people to act out “how a girl runs”, ‘Throws a ball,’ ect…. societies perception of how a girl does these things was a million miles away from what the girls actually showed us on camera. It seems to be the misconceptions and stereotypes hit big as a girl hits 12, 13 upwards and she can lose faith in herself and her own ability, this to me is such a waste of that true spirit and confidence that was there in her youth. How do we educate our girls and society to make sure girls are keeping that inner belief in the, selves from childhood, to adolescence through and into adulthood?
